UK launches new online visa application for South Africans

by John Dunn | May 11, 2016
  • There’s good news for those who are planning a trip to the UK. The arrival of a new online visa application service – Access UK – will make applying for visitor visas significantly easier.
UK launches online visa applications in SA

This new online service aims to make the need for lengthy visits to the UK Visas and Immigration centres a thing of the past.

The visas currently on offer to South Africans under Access UK include:

    • Visitor visa – Standard
    • Visitor visa – Marriage

Other visas include those for visitors undertaking the Professional Linguistics Assessments Board test, Objective Structured Clinical Examination, Clinical Attachment and Dental Observations.

After being trialled in China and India earlier this year, this simple online application service is now live and available to South Africans. Applicants can look forward to a short form, with logically ordered and dynamic questions.

Applicants will also be able to review and edit their submission at any stage during the application process, as well as view all fees in Rands. While the cost of the visas vary and depend almost entirely on the exchange rate at the time, a standard visitor visa costs £87, which translates to roughly R1,889.00 at the time of writing.

After completing the forms online, applicants will also be able to book their Visa Application Centre appointment and pay online. It’s worth noting that biometrics will need to be submitted in order to complete the application.

While the Visa4UK portal will continue to run, new applicants will be redirected to the Access UK service.
