Invest your way to dual citizenship

by Samantha Carter-Vawda | Jul 01, 2016
  • As the world becomes more connected it’s not just high net worth individuals who are looking to invest and live abroad. Sable Nationality gives you access to programmes around the world that allow you to gain dual citizenship through an investment.

Invest offshore while attaining dual citizenship

Citizenship by investment is the process through which foreigners are able to gain permanent residence and/or citizenship through specific investment activities in a country. There are many of these programmes across the globe, in both developed and developing countries. Each programme, and host country, has particular benefits.

Two of the most popular destinations for citizenship by investment are Portugal and the United Kingdom. As a global organisation, we also provide you access to citizenship by investment programmes in several other countries.

Portugal’s Golden Visa: A route to EU residency

Sable’s Golden Visa Portugal service gives investors a unique two-fold opportunity to:

    • Make a solid capital investment in a developed country
    • Attain EU residency with the potential for EU citizenship for you and your family

The conditions of Portugal’s Golden Residence Permit Programme are quite simple: Investors are required to make a capital investment into the Portuguese economy.

There are three main investment categories available to participants:

    1. A €1 million capital investment into Portugal
    2. Establish a Portuguese company that employs more than 10 people
    3. Purchase real estate with a minimum value of €500,000, which must be unencumbered

New categories are periodically added to the list, so be sure to check with one of our experts before deciding whether or not this citizenship by investment programme is for you and your family.

Once you have invested, you will be granted a visa granting you permanent residence in Portugal. The requirements of this visa are not particularly onerous. For instance, you only need to spend seven days in Portugal the first year and 14 days every subsequent year for the visa to remain valid.

The Golden Visa will also allow you and your family to travel through the Schengen area as if you held a Schengen visa.

After five years you will be allowed to apply for Portuguese residency. Once you have been a resident for a year you will be able to apply for full EU citizenship.

To find out more about this route to dual citizenship, give out Golden Visa Portugal team a call on +27 (0) 21 657 1584. You can also complete our obligation free pre-qualification questionnaire.
