The Global Talent visa offers talented professionals the freedom to live and work in the UK without sponsorship, while contributing their expertise to the country’s innovation, research, and creative sectors.

Who can apply for a Global Talent visa?

You can apply for a Global Talent Visa if you work in one of the following sectors:

• Academia or research – including scientists, engineers, and academics
• Arts and culture – including film, fashion, architecture, literature, and performing arts
• Digital technology – including founders, technical experts, and innovators

You may qualify as either:

• an Exceptional Talent (already recognised as a leader in your field), or
• an Exceptional Promise (showing potential to become a leader in the future).

Typical eligibility criteria

While requirements vary by field, applicants typically need to demonstrate:

• A strong track record of achievement or innovation
• Recognition through awards, publications, media, or leadership roles
• Evidence of international impact or contribution to their field
• Support from recognised organisations or peers in their sector

How the Global Talent visa works

The Global Talent route has two main stages:

1. Endorsement stage

You must first be endorsed by an approved UK organisation that can verify your achievements and impact.

Endorsing bodies include:

• The Royal Society, The British Academy, and UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) for academia and research
• Arts Council England for arts and culture
• Tech Nation (until its transition to a new body) for digital technology

Once endorsed, you’ll receive an endorsement letter to use in your visa application.

2. Visa application stage

After receiving endorsement, you can apply for the visa through the UK Home Office.

You’ll need to:

• Complete the online application form
• Pay the visa and healthcare fees

How long is a Global Talent visa valid for?

The visa can be granted for up to five years at a time, and you can choose the duration that suits your plans. There’s no limit to how long you can stay in the UK in total, but you will need to extend your visa before it expires. Each extension can last from one to five years – you choose how long you want the extension to be.

You may be able to get indefinite leave to remain so you can settle in the UK after three or five years, depending on which field you work in and how you apply. This gives you the right to live, work and study here for as long as you like, and apply for benefits if you’re eligible.

What are the Global Talent visa fees?

• Endorsement fee: £561
• Visa application fee: £205
• Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS): £1,035 per year that your visa is valid for (for access to NHS healthcare)
