What our clients have to say
FAQs Commonly Asked in Uganda
1. Does Sable International offer scholarships or funding?
Sable International does not provide scholarships or funding directly. However, many of our partner universities offer partial scholarships to international students, often as tuition discounts ranging from 5% to 20%. These may be merit-based or available simply for international applicants. Some universities also provide higher-value scholarships, which students can apply for independently.
2. Can I work while studying abroad?
Yes, in most countries, international students are allowed to work while studying. Typically, this means up to 20 hours per week during term time and full-time during breaks, though exact rules vary by country and visa type.
3. Will the school help students find a job?
Most universities offer a career or job hub where students can access job opportunities and support to explore part-time or graduate roles.
4. Are standardised tests like the SAT or IELTS compulsory?
Requirements vary by country and university. IELTS may be waived in the UK or Canada if you studied in English, SATs may be optional in the USA, and IELTS or PTE is usually required in Australia and New Zealand. Some universities accept alternative proof of English, but certain countries, like the UK, may still require IELTS for visa purposes.
5. What documents are needed for university applications?
You will typically need:
- Passport bio page
- Academic transcripts and certificates (UCE, UACE, or equivalent)
- Personal statement or motivation letter
- CV or résumé (for postgraduate programmes)
- Recommendation letters
- English proficiency results (if required)
- Application fee (if applicable)
6. What are the academic entry requirements for specific courses?
- Diploma/Certificate: UCE and at least one principal pass at UACE
- Undergraduate: 2-3 principal passes at UACE or equivalent
- Postgraduate: A recognised bachelor’s degree with a minimum second class
Requirements may vary by course and country, and our team will assess eligibility for each institution.
7. What is the turnaround time for university application feedback?
- UK and Australia: 2-6 weeks
- Canada: 3-8 weeks
- USA: 4-12 weeks
Applications are processed faster when all documents are complete and submitted early.
8. When is the best time to apply, and which intakes are available?
We recommend applying at least 6–9 months in advance. Main intakes by country:
- UK: January and September
- Canada: January, May and September
- Australia: February and July
- USA: January (Spring) and August (Fall)
9. Is tuition paid per year or per semester, and must it be paid in full upfront?
Tuition is usually billed per year, though some universities allow semester-based or instalment payments. Most require an initial deposit (e.g., £3,000–£8,000 for the UK) before issuing a visa letter, with the remaining balance payable later or in instalments.
10. What guidelines should I follow when choosing a study destination or university?
Consider factors such as:
- Course relevance and university ranking
- Tuition and living costs
- Post-study work opportunities
- Entry requirements
- Visa approval rates for students from Uganda
- Support services available for international students
11. Is accommodation provided on-campus or off-campus?
Both options are available. On-campus halls are convenient but often competitive, while off-campus housing can be more affordable and offer greater flexibility.
12. What is the turnaround time for visa decisions?
- UK: 3-4 weeks (standard), 5-7 working days (priority)
- Canada: 6-10 weeks
- Australia: 4-8 weeks
- USA: 2-4 weeks after the interview
Times may vary depending on the season and completeness of your application.
13. Are graduates eligible for post-study work permits?
Yes, graduates can typically work after completing their studies:
- UK: 2-3 years
- Canada: Up to 3 years
- Australia: 2-4 years
- USA: Optional Practical Training (12-36 months)
Eligibility depends on the country, visa type, and programme of study.
